Tarot card reading

I paid $10 for a mini tarot card reading at the mall. The psychic, Elizabeth, asked me to pick six cards from her deck. Based on what I picked:

She said I’ll be getting a raise or promotion this year. She mentioned that I’ve recently been hurt in love, but that he’s not the one for me. I’ve yet to meet the one for me, but I will marry him at 32. We’ll have a daughter. She also said that I’m gonna have a happy life and happy marriage. In my middle ages, I will be happy and satisfied with my accomplishments.

Closeup of the bridal party earrings

Closeup of the bridal party earrings

I’ve always been a fan of accessories, which led me to take a jewelry class. I learned a lot and have even created some earrings for friends as Christmas presents when I was stressed out. A few years go, my friend, Carmela, wanted to give her mother some new personalized jewelry for her birthday. She asked me to make some for her. I assume she was satisfied with my craftsmanship because she asked me to make earrings for her bridal party.

Blossom Kite Festival

Kites by the Washington Monument

Colorful kites surround the Washington Monument

We hosted six people visiting from the Motherland: my aunt, grandma, and their doctor friends. They timed their visit with the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C., so we went there. Their arrival coincided with the Blossom Kite Festival on the grounds of the Washington Monument on the National Mall. There were SO MANY people and SO MANY kites!

Unfortunately, it was an unusually cold spring day and crazily overcast. But, all the colorful kites made up for it. I wish I brought a kite, so I could fly it along with everyone else. It looked really fun! My favorite ones were the irregularly shaped kites that looked like spaceships, or legs walking on air. (One of the legs even hit someone on the head when the kite steadily lost air. I wish I took a picture of it!)

I’ve been to Washington, DC many times, but I never get tired of seeing the sights. There are always a crowd of tourists whenever I go there, and their excitement always rubs off on me. It’s a good feeling It was a great start to our visitors’ U.S. vacation. I’m sure they had loads of fun, too!

A career fair

My dad had heard of a career fair in the area and had been bugging me to attend. The fair was free and open to the public, so I thought, “Why not? What did I have to lose?”

Being a career fair beginner, I asked Carmela to join me as she had been to several career fairs. We printed out a few resume copies to hand out to potential employers. We also dressed a bit more professionally, which always makes me feel uncomfortable. I don’t know what it is about dressing professionally that dampens my confidence. I think I don’t feel like me and sometimes it projects my nervousness.

Carmela & I chatted with several recruiters, but most of the companies there are hiring sales people or customer service representatives. The U.S. Secret Service was there, too, but I don’t qualify for most of their positions as I lack a government security clearance.

The fair was a bust, but we weren’t surprised. Recruiters don’t tend to recruit designers at fairs because they recruit in bulk, so it makes sense to only look for generic jobs, like sales and customer service personnel. Rather than let it get us down, we went to the mall nearby and hung out there for quite a bit. Retail therapy is a good stress reliever, right?

Mannequin heads at the dentist’s office

I was my mom’s chauffeur in the morning, meaning I was to take her to the dentist’s office then take her to run some errands.

Mannequin head on a truck

Imagine my surprise when THAT parked behind me! The man’s truck had two mannequin heads: one on each side. The other head might’ve had a blonde wig, but I don’t quite remember. I was too creeped out to focus. Naturally, I had to take a picture as discreetly as I could, to show it to everyone later. Lol. Priorities

I imagine this guy’s home being littered with headless mannequin bodies that he stole from department stores. Or, perhaps he bought them. Can people just go to a store to buy mannequins? I don’t know how it works.

Maybe his house is full of mannequins he uses for decorations? Like, a leg lamp. Or, a torso for a night table. He could get really creative!

After that weirdness, the rest of my morning was thankfully creep-free. Just another sunny day running errands…
