A matchmaker you’re not

2 hearts on stones

My friend, Kel, loves matchmaking. He’s not particularly good at it, nor has he had any successful pairings. But, he never lets that deter him.

In the 4 years I’ve known him, he’s tried to pair me with 5 guys:

  • John, who regularly parked next to me at my old job
  • Mark, who I looked up to like an older brother
  • Ray, who Kel thought “had a thing for Asian girls”
  • Tim, who somehow always ended up sitting near me during lunches
  • James, who’s probably gay

He’d always make up all these situations that he wanted me to recreate. Situations that he thought would somehow make us fall in love, like in the movies. As you can tell, he has a very active imagination. Of course, I’d play along and help him concoct these elaborate setups, but eventually he realized I’d never really put them into practice. I’m pretty sure one of them had us fighting zombies :!: and somehow ending up dancing in a Coke commercial. Like I said, active imagination… and not rooted in this reality

Well, he eventually gave up on the guys since I was clearly not attracted to any of them. The only one I admitted to finding attractive was James, the gay one, but I figured he was a safe choice since nothing would ever happen. He agrees, but for some reason, he’s still holding on to this one…

I worked for a shady company…

I just found out that one of work friends, Tim, was let go. His boss called him into his office right before the Christmas party to tell him that they’re restructuring the company & that his services were no longer needed. The strange thing is that he’s one of their best, if not THE best. He made the company $3 million this year on just ONE of his promos. Based on revenue reports, he’s made them more money than anyone there!

For some reason, his boss doesn’t like him. We’re unsure why. He’s shy, so maybe he doesn’t go out drinking with his boss & coworkers often? Or maybe he doesn’t suck up to his boss? We don’t know. But, as of today, three weeks later, nobody else was let go because of “restructuring.” It’s become evident that “restructuring” is just an invented reason to get rid of him.

Unfortunately, we’re not surprised. They’ve been known to resort to these tactics when they try to get rid of people they’ve grown to dislike. Most recently, it happened to the girl who replaced me.

There’s not much we can do about it, but I’ve heard that the company has many lawsuits against it for fraudulent claims, false advertising, and who knows what else. (They’re a financial company.) I’m really hoping that the SEC (United States Securities and Exchange Commission) finally shuts them down

A fusion of color

As per Stress reliever and Let’s get crafty…, I’ve been feeling crafty lately; plus, it’s starting to get cold again, so I decided to whip up a scarf. A classmate of mine gave me a HUGE bag full of yarn as a thank you when I helped her with her class website, so I went digging through that stash to make these projects. I’ve crocheted 4 scarfs so far.

This scarf is for my friend. It’s modeled from Luna Lovegood’s scarf from the Harry Potter movies. You can get the free pattern here. Continue reading

Reflections of an ex-friend

If you know me (either online or offline), then you know that after a lot of thinking and stressing out, I reluctantly bowed out of my friend’s wedding. I know it wasn’t the nice thing to do, but it certainly felt like the right thing to do. Well, it’s been eight months since that debacle, and I found myself reflecting on what happened.

At this point, I thought I was going to be sadder about it. I thought I was going to miss her. Something. Anything. But, I find myself indifferent. I find that not only do I not miss her, but that I haven’t really felt her missing from my life. My life is exactly the same as it was before we stopped being friends. Continue reading

Hah-vud Yahd

When I visited my friend in Boston, one of our first stops was Harvard University, where she works. She took me around their beautiful campus. We chilled at the Yard and pretended to study with all the students. Though, I’m sure they could tell we weren’t with all the pictures I was taking. We checked out the farmer’s market and bought some local chocolate.

Pooh lives by the Science Center

But, my favorite was the Winnie the Pooh stuffed toy that lived in a tree by the Science center. If you look carefully at Pooh’s “House,” you can see Piglet’s tail sticking out under the bottom of the door. It seems someone shut him inside without making sure he was perfectly in
